We understand the fear, stress and pressures faced by parents of children and teens with eating disorders. Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge and support you need to get through this difficult time.
The philosophy of our practice is that we are a team working together for your child’s recovery. We are committed to providing your child with state of the art medical care and assuring that the treatment team is working in an integrated fashion. Appointments are scheduled so that you never feel rushed and always have adequate time to have all of your questions answered and concerns addressed.
Our practice consists of a three-pronged integrated approach to eating disorder treatment.
-
Medical monitoring
After a thorough initial medical intake examination, Dr. Carlton will monitor your child’s medical condition on a weekly basis. At these visits she will meet separately with you and your child to discuss your child’s progress over the prior week and address any concerns or questions that you may have. Dr. Carlton will check your child’s weight and vital signs (heart rate, blood pressure, etc.) and perform a thorough medical examination. At this time she may order blood tests or other studies if she feels that they are needed.
If your child were to be seen in an emergency room or admitted to a hospital, Dr. Carlton would consult with the treating doctor to ensure that your child received the most appropriate treatment.
-
Team compilation and coordination
After your child’s initial intake examination, Dr. Carlton will utilize her extensive network of dietitians, therapists, psychiatrists, physical therapists and occupational therapists to help you organize a treatment team tailored to your child’s unique needs. She will then act as “team coordinator”. In this role, Dr. Carlton will speak with each treatment team member on a weekly basis (you, as parents, are integral members of this team) and get their input on: how they feel things are progressing, any problems that need to be addressed and goals for the next week and beyond.

Parent Support and Coaching
Dr. Carlton will meet with you on a weekly basis to address all of your questions and concerns. However, we are aware that questions and concerns do not just occur during business hours. Therefore, Dr. Carlton will be available to you by pager 24-hours a day.
